Updated 1/13/19…..News-Herald article on the Auditor’s position:
Here is a link to the News-Herald article dated January 10, 2019

(LFC Comment on the update:  As we suspected, if Mr. Zupancic does not believe he can continue, the Republican Party gets to appoint a replacement.  If Mr. Zupancic cannot continue, It is our humble opinion that there should be a special election to allow the Lake County voters to choose a new Auditor.   It could lead to the perception in the community that the secrecy of the illness was more than complying with the HIPAA laws, but one of political manipulation to ensure a Republican retains the position. Just for the record, we are pulling for Mr. Zupancic’s complete recovery.  He is a very fine, honorable man, and a great Auditor.)

LFC is very sad to hear that Mr. Ed Zupancic, Lake County Auditor, has a health issue, and we sincerely wish him a speedy, and complete recovery.

We received the following document that indicates Mr. Zupancic has terminated his position as Lake County Auditor, effective January 31. 2019, for his current term ending March 10, 2019 because of health reasons.

However, the letter also indicates that he is not resigning his position from his four year term that he earned with the support of the voters on November 6, 2018 election, and commencing on March 11, 2019.

The draft resolution is required since the commissioners will appoint his temporary replacement.

Zupancic’s 12-28-18 letter

Darft resolution for Zupancic

This has us a bit perplexed, and will need to ask more questions at the Commissioners’ meeting today.  We will update this article when we get more information.

Update: Per the County Prosecutor, Mr. Charles Coulson, although limited in what he could say because of HIPAA laws, did say the Mr. Zupancic believes that he will be able to return to work on March 11, 2019 in full capacity.

There is more to be posted…..this is not over….
