Lake Tran…..bringing Cleveland workers to Mentor

Thanks to our Kirtland lobbyist for this article on Lake Tran services…..bringing the workers to their jobs.  We would hope that it is more than just the two workers shown in the article.  It the ridership is not greater, perhaps Uber would be cheaper.

We had heard that Lake Tran is having financial difficulties so we have asked for their financial statements.  We will see how profitable this new service is for Lake Tran.  Our concern is they might be going back the Lake County taxpayers for additional taxes.

We spoke to a representative of Lake Tran.  This service from Cleveland to Mentor is not really adding costs since the buses must return to Mentor after their trip into Cleveland.  This service is merely trying to generate revenue with a few Cleveland people that work in Mentor.

At the April meeting there may be a resolution to place an .2 or .25 increase in the sales tax to support approximately $800,000 in State and Federal grants, and an 18% increase in the “Dial-A-Ride” services.

Although Lake Tran can levy a property tax, it is not being discussed at this time.  We will wait to see if a resolution is submitted at the April meeting before we give you our opinion on the need for any additional tax revenue.  However, we can reveal to you that their 2017 balance sheet shows over $10 million in investments.  Justifying any additional revenue to LFC is going to be “climbing a mighty big mountain.”
