Thanks to one of our many Kirtland lobbyists for this latest information about the “haves” and the “have nots” at Lakeland Community College.
Have to admit we had to look up what an “adjunct faculty” meant: Per Wikipedia:
“In North America, an adjunct professor, also known as an adjunct lecturer or adjunct instructor (collectively, adjunct faculty), is a professor who teaches on a limited-term contract, often for one semester at a time, and who is ineligible for tenure. Roughly 75% of college faculty are non-tenure-track.” (LFC understands that the overwhelming majority of LCC teachers fall into the category of “adjunct”.)
We have also learned : “A “term“ is a quarter, semester, or summer session. Under the current system, an academic year is made up of three terms. This is a one time payment made at the end of spring semester. It began last year, so this is only the second time such payments have been offered.”
Subject: Longevity Bonus for Adjunct Faculty
Hello Adjunct Faculty:
Thank you for your service to Lakeland Community College. Human Resources is finalizing the list of adjuncts who are eligible to receive a stipend on the May 31 pay.
Adjuncts having taught or worked as a counselor or librarian in either the Fall or Spring semester of the 2018-19 academic year are eligible to receive a longevity bonus based on the number of terms worked over the course of their employment as an adjunct.
Please see the chart below for the number of terms and associated stipend:
· Between 10 and 19 terms taught: $100
· Between 20 and 29 terms taught: $150
· Between 30 and 39 terms taught: $200
· More than 39 terms taught: $250
The number of terms worked for each adjunct was based on Banner payroll records beginning with the 1999-2000 academic year. Service prior to that time was verified via a manual count by Human Resources staff. This affected approximately four dozen individuals.
Here are some additional details of how the numbers of terms were determined:
· Summer teaching assignments were not included in the total number of terms
· In the case of former full-time faculty members, only post full-time employment terms as an adjunct were included in the total number of terms. Likewise, any terms worked under a full-time temporary contract were not counted.
· Terms employed as a CCP instructor were included in the total number of terms.

(LFC Comment: While the gesture is nice, we wonder what bonus amounts are given to the “haves” at LCC? We are going to take a wild guess and say that neither Debbie or Morris are working for minimum wage. We may start to see “adjuncts” along Route 306 with signs saying: “SAVE AN ADJUNCT – WILL WORK FOR FOOD”)
HEY, Batman….you are getting a bit “snarky” in your old age…
A mi pequeño amigo…I plead guilty….but people have a misconception….
What do you mean, Señor Snark….?
Ah, my vertically challenged friend…We are not dependent on any anyone for our job, benefits or pension….what anyone thinks of us is totally irrelevant….we are only exposing the truth to the citizens…..Freedom has a price…
