A citizen asked us about voting by mail. We contacted Ross McDonald, Lake County’s very talented Elections Board Director, and he provided us with the following response.
Indeed, citizens may vote by mail at any election we conduct, including the Special Election for Willoughby-Eastlake City Schools on August 6.
The process is very simple: voters must submit the Absentee Application (Form 11A)
prior to Noon on the Saturday before the election, which is August 3. Now, this deadline is the statutory deadline; however, it is problematic to wait that long to submit the application. I always tell voters to do their best to submit the application not later than Thursday prior to the election. As you can imagine, it can be hard to ensure timely delivery of their ballot if one waits until Saturday, considering the ballot must be post-marked no later than the Monday prior to the election (August 5 for the Special in question).
I have attached the absentee application. It is a generic form that may be distributed to anyone looking to vote by mail. Please let me know if you have additional questions.
