LCC & the Coronavirus

(LFC Comments:  We received this message from one of Kirtland lobbyists.)

Dear Lakeland Campus Community:

As you know, the number of confirmed Coronavirus cases in Ohio and Lake County continues to increase, and unfortunately it was only a matter of time before the Lakeland family was impacted. An employee has reported to us that they have tested positive for the Coronavirus by the Cleveland Clinic.

We appreciate that this employee notified the college of this information. When a person is informed that they have the virus, they are instructed by healthcare professionals to self-report to those they may have had contact with over a certain period of time. They are also instructed to self-isolate for 14 days, which the employee is doing.

We are sharing this with you because the employee was last on campus on March 16 and began to feel ill late that day.  The size of our campus and the extent to which each of us interacts with others makes it difficult to be certain of everyone that may have interacted with the employee, but the employee indicated having little, if any, interaction outside of the H-Building.

Students were on spring break March 7 to 13, and classes were suspended March 14 to 20 to transition to remote delivery.

We have contacted the Lake County Health District, and they offered some guidance to pass along to everyone who has been on campus: practice social distancing, wash hands, all other CDC guidelines, and self-monitor for symptoms.  If you have additional concerns, the Ohio Department of Health has opened a call center to answer questions about COVID-19.  The call center is open seven days a week from 9 AM to 8 PM and can be reached at 1-833-427-5634.

For those who were told by the employee that they may have been in direct contact with the employee, the Health District recommends to self-quarantine. Out of an abundance of caution, all employees working in H-Building may be well advised to self-quarantine and pay close attention to physical symptoms.

We wish our employee, and others effected by this pandemic, a full recovery. Stay informed of the latest campus updates at . We will get through this together.
