Calls Needed to Support the Truth in COVID-19 Statistics Bill – House Bill 624
Ohio Rep. Diane Grendell (R) has sponsored legislation that seeks to address specifics regarding the daily and weekly figures relating to COVID-19 that are driving vital health, economic policy, and livelihood decisions in Ohio.
Rep. Grendell states in her sponsor testimony that the reporting of data concerning COVID-19 by the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) has been one-sided and woefully incomplete.
To this day, she states, only the data that promotes fear and despair – confirmed cases, hospitalizations, deaths – has been reported by the ODH. What has not been reported is the other half of the story:
- The number of confirmed daily deaths caused by COVID (the cumulative number is scarier; the actual daily number is not);
- The number of confirmed cases that did not require any medical care;
- The number of patients who were treated and released from the hospital;
- The number of individuals who tested negative, false positives, and duplicate numbers;
- The number of deaths that did not involve nursing home residents or prison inmates. (Congregate)
- Number of individuals with contributing factors such as:
• Heart Disease
• High Blood Pressure
• Pulmonary Issues
Rep. Grendell reports that, as of November 17th, over 70% of Ohio COVID deaths involved congregate settings.
H.B. 624 simply requires that the ODH provides Ohioans with the full story – all of the facts – good and bad when disseminating information on COVID-19.
On June 10, 2020, H.B. 624 passed the Ohio House 61-34. The bill has been assigned to the Ohio Senate Government Oversight and Reform Committee. Rep. Grendell presented sponsor testimony on November 18, but there has been no further movement in the Senate committee.
Time is short in the current legislative session, but calls or e-mails to the Senate committee Chair, Vice Chair, and Members simply asking them, as a Government Oversight and Reform Committee Member, to support and fast track H.B. 624,
The Truth in COVID-19 Statistics Bill can still be helpful and will show that there is strong support for responsible, complete, and understandable reporting by the ODH with regard to COVID-19.
