The committee to review Diversity, Inclusion and Equity, language in Lakeland COMMUNITY College’s policies and plans is scheduled to have its first meeting in the conference room at the Holden Building on Wednesday, March 22 at 5:30PM. Dr. Morris Beverage Jr. will present his goals for the committee, and the accreditation process for Higher Learning Commissions.
This is important. The Board has already heard from the faculty and students. Of course, all who spoke were all on board with this. That means that either, all agree, therefore there is no diversity of thought, or those who don’t are reluctant to speak. The Board has not heard from we the people who pay for this institution. We need to let them know that we are interested and paying attention. No need to speak, just be there for moral support. Diversity, inclusion and equity actually divides us until we have nothing in common, negates equality of opportunity and seems to include everyone unless you have a different opinion. We need to be seen and heard!!
We have been told, in no uncertain terms, that “Diversity, Inclusion and Equity” is the cornerstone of Lakeland Community College teaching philosophy.
