FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Campaign to End Ohio Property Taxes Moving Forward at Full Strength
Cleveland, Ohio – The Committee to Abolish Ohio Property Taxes announced today that its statewide signature-gathering campaign to place a constitutional amendment on the May 2026 ballot is moving forward at full strength—despite recent changes in coalition membership.
We are a non-partisan organization welcoming support from every corner of the political spectrum. Our mission is simple: to restore true home ownership to Ohioans by ending the system that forces residents to pay rent to the government for life through property taxes.
“This is about restoring true home ownership in Ohio,” said Brian Massie, spokesperson for the Committee. “No one should be forced to rent their home from the government for life. Any tax that can force a citizen into homelessness is immoral.”
Coalition Update
Recently, Beth Blackmarr of Citizens to Reform Property Taxes, one of our coalition partners, made the personal decision to step away from the movement. We are deeply grateful for her tireless work coordinating petition circulators and establishing signing locations. Her contributions will be missed, and we fully understand the physical and mental toll that grassroots activism can take.
Petition Drive Continues
We remain fully committed to our mission and urge all Ohio citizens—homeowners, renters, retirees, working families, and small business owners—to join the effort.
- Deadline to submit petitions: December 1, 2025
- Mail or deliver to:
Brian Massie
8600 Tyler Blvd., Unit 150
Mentor, OH 44061 - Petitions must be received by December 1 so they can be processed before the January 1, 2026 state filing deadline.
Why This Matters
- Property taxes are a lifetime debt that threaten home ownership security.
- Rising taxes can and do force families—especially seniors on fixed incomes—into foreclosure and homelessness.
- Ending property taxes means permanent ownership and the ability to pass homes on to future generations without fear of losing them to tax bills.
