There is a big vote tomorrow for the Lake County Commissioners. Agenda items number 11 and 12 cover the homestead tax exemption and local optional owner-occupied property tax exemption.
We know that Commissioner John Plecnik (a.k.a. Commissioner No) will support the citizens of Lake County and approve to continue give the property tax credits to homeowners. The big question is what will Commissioner Morris Beverage or Commissioner Morgan McIntosh do?
Beverage is safe for now since he is not on the November 2026 ballot, but McIntosh will have to reckon with the people if he votes to defeat either or both of the resolutions.
The scuttlebutt is that the power brokers in Lake County want the Commissioners to pass the homestead exemption, but defeat the owner-occupancy credit.
