We have sent the following letter to Mr. Jason Boyd, Lake County Administrator, asking he and the Commissioners to consider not funding the entity known as Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP).

Re: RSVP Funding

Dear Mr. Boyd:

The purpose of this letter is to respectfully request that the Lake County administration completely stop funding the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program (RSVP) with the property tax money generated by the Senior Tax Levy.

It is our position that the $130,000 projected to be given to RSVP in 2019 would be a waste of taxpayers’ funds. Those funds would be better spent with the Council on Aging for their ‘Meals on Wheels’ program.

For the years 2013 – 2018, RSVP has received $744,925 from the Senior Levy paid by Lake County residents through their property taxes.

It is our position that rather than paying salaries and benefits, including pensions, for two employees of the Willoughby-Eastlake school system to control the Lake County volunteers, we believe it is more cost effective to have a volunteer manage those volunteers.

Thank you for considering our request, and we ask that you provide a written response so that we can make it available to all Lake County residents.
