Senate Finance Committee Has Solution to Citizens Losing Their Homes….more taxation is needed

By Brian Massie, A Watchman on the Wall

Just for the record our legislators swear an oath to follow the Ohio Constitution. Here is Article 1 of the Ohio Constitution dealing with inalienable rights.

Effective: September 1, 1851

All men are, by nature, free and independent, and have certain inalienable rights, among which are those of enjoying and defending life and liberty, acquiring, possessing, and protecting property, and seeking and obtaining happiness and safety.

We find it very revealing that upon citizens rising up in protest of our State and local governments out-growing the private sector’s ability to pay for services, we see the true measure of our State Senators.

“If a senior cannot afford their property taxes, they should sell their home and move into an apartment…this will also help with the housing shortage!”…If that leader’s mindset is not bad enough, we now see that the Finance Committee, led by Republican Jerry C. Cirino (District 18) has introduced Senate Bill Number 93 (Senator Brenner (District 19) is the named sponsor)

We have come to the conclusion that our State Senators have definitely lost touch with the average citizens. They are sitting so high on their thrones that they cannot even relate to the plight of the average citizens of Ohio.

Summary of the proposed S.B. 93 bill…they want a state property tax!!!!!

To declare the General Assembly’s intent to
establish a new school financing system that
provides a statewide per-pupil funding payment
to public and chartered nonpublic schools based
on a single statewide property tax and increased
state sales tax.

Without even considering cutting spending and reducing the size of government, Senator Cirino’s committee’s thought process is that the State government can better handle administering the property taxes. In reality, they already control the increases in the property valuation of each County.

Why is the government in the business of property valuation? That is not the role of government. Any taxes raised should be on income and not on unrealized gains as a result of artificially increased property values by a third party not accountable to the taxpayers.

Senator Cirino, it is irresponsible of you and your Finance Committee to violate your oath of office and ignore the first amendment of the Ohio Constitution. What part of “acquiring, possessing, and protecting property, and seeking and obtaining happiness and safety” is confusing you, Senator Cirino. Any tax causing a citizen to become homeless is immoral.

Home ownership is the foundation of freedom and liberty, and allows families to get out of poverty by allowing the transfer of wealth from one generation to the next. Why is that so difficult for State Senators and Representatives to understand? It appears they “having taken a knee” and rewarded their donor class at the expense of the citizens they are supposed to represent.

It is past time for our State legislators to start shrinking the size of government. Without property taxes, there will be no need for many State and local positions relating to the administering of property taxes. Obviously, we need to D.O.G.E. Ohio.

Senator Cirino, we no longer want to be merely renters from the State and local governments.

Commissioner John Plecnik

Lake County Commissioner John Plecnik is also a tax law professor. He mentions Article 6, Section 2 of the Ohio Constitution detailing the role of the State government in funding public schools.

Here is Article 6, Section 2 of the Ohio Constitution:

Effective: September 1, 1851

The General Assembly shall make such provisions, by taxation, or otherwise, as, with the income arising from the school trust fund, will secure a thorough and efficient system of common schools throughout the state; but no religious or other sect, or sects, shall ever have any exclusive right to, or control of, any part of the school funds of this state.

Commissioner Plecnik is quite adamant that the property taxes are too high, and our rent to the government is too high.

Note to all State Senators and State Representatives: “You shall be judged by your fruits”, and right now your “fruits are inedible” to the citizens of Ohio.

Judgement day is coming!
