We asked the Lake County Board of Elections for the issues that are going to be on the November 3rd ballot.
We created the following worksheet that provides the details on the property tax and earned income tax levies. We noticed a glaring deficiency. The earned income tax levies do not provide the estimated annual revenue to be generated for the three schools – Painesville, Riverside, and Willoughby-Eastlake.
Since we promote honesty, integrity and transparency in government, we sent this email to the three school Treasurers.
Dear Superintendents:
We have confirmed with the Lake County Board of Elections that there will be three (3) continuous earned income tax levies on the ballot in November. [(1.0%) Riverside, (,75%) Willoughby-Eastlake, and (1.25%) Painesville]
All three levies do not have an estimated amount that is to be collected annually if the levies are passed by the voters in the respective school district. The estimated amount has to be known so that you know what percentage of earned income is to be collected.
We are asking for the estimated annual revenue to be collected for each earned income tax levy so that we can reveal it to the people.
Also, we would like to know the estimated millage that would be required to collect the same amount if the school district chose to use the property tax rather than the earned income tax.
Honesty, integrity and transparency are necessary for good governance.
