We attended a Geauga County Tea Party meeting last week, and discovered some real patriots that were interested in helping the Amish community, although they are not part of the community. Following their Christian principles of being kind, tolerant, patient , and with a strong desire to help their fellow Americans, they are going to help the Amish community to register to vote. What prompted this need, you may ask?
Increasing PROPERTY TAXES is the answer!
From the https://lancasterpa.com/amish/ website, we learned this about the Amish community:
“The Amish trace their heritage back hundreds of years, and yet, despite all the time that has passed and the many changes that have taken place in society, they still live and work much as their forefathers did. For the Amish people, family, farm and faith are top priorities”. (LFC added emphasis)
You see, their land is everything to the Amish community, and they recognize that with the ever increasing property taxes they are being priced out of their homes, and that, ultimately, may mean the loss of their culture.
Many in the Amish community have previously chosen not to be part of the modern society. (Based on our current societal trends, I think that they may have chosen wisely) However, they are now very concerned that they may begin to lose the one of their top priorities – their farms.
We salute the Geauga Tea Party and their members for reaching out to help the Amish community.
