Auditor’s Office…policing itself?..Not in taxpayers’ best interest

We read this article in the News-Herald today:
News-Herald Auditor's Software Problems

We had been informed of this problem many, many weeks ago, and we were assured that the problems had been solved.  Since that obviously was a “lack of candor” moment, we will take additional steps to ensure that the taxpayers are protected.  Stay tuned….we will keep all of our readers posted on what transpires.

Here is our email to the State of Ohio Auditor’s Northeast Office:

To Whom it May Concern:

Lobbyists for Citizens is a 501 ( C) (4) Non-Profit promoting honesty and transparency at all government levels.
We have attached the News-Herald article regarding the software problems in the Lake County Auditor’s Office.
We were told many weeks ago that this software problem had been solved, but obviously, someone had a ‘lack of candor’ moment.
As a watchdog group for the citizens of Lake County, we ask that the State of Ohio Auditor’s office assure the Lake County citizens that our property taxes are being correctly assessed, and that the distributions to the various political sub-divisions have been made correctly and timely.
It is not good policy to assume that a governmental office can “police itself”.  Once there has been a “cover-up” of the problem, re-establishing credibility will require outside forces to ensure compliance with State standards.
Please accept this as a formal complaint against the Lake County Auditor.
Thank you,
Brian Massie
