We received a prompt, and complete reply from Mr. Paul Palagyi, Executive Director of the Lake Metroparks, to our inquiry about their alcohol policy in the parks. Kudos to the Director, the board, and his entire staff for maintaining a beautiful park system.
While we do not permit alcohol to be consumed openly in the parks or in most of our shelters, we do have a system whereby renters of specific facilities can get a permit for alcohol.
For example, someone renting the building at Lake Erie Bluffs for an anniversary party can get a permit to have alcohol at their event. In that example, they would pay a $300 security deposit (as opposed to $100 without alcohol) and they would have to pay for a Ranger to be present ($30 per hour). We only allow alcohol (with the higher security deposit, permit and Ranger) at special facilities including the buildings at the Farmpark, Penitentiary Glen, the Environmental Learning Center, Hidden Lake Lodge, Painesville Twp Park Dance Hall, Lakefront Lodge Lake Erie Bluffs Lodge, and Fairport Harbor.
At those locations, renters are required to keep the alcohol within the area of the building that they have rented (so they are not permitted to wander the park). We do not allow alcohol at the more rustic open shelters that we have throughout the parks. Renters who secure such a permit from us are required to get any/all permits from the Ohio Liquor Control Board as required by that Board. This policy has worked well in our experience.
We also hold state issued liquor licenses at Painesville Twp Park and our two golf courses.
I hope this answers your question, but if there’s anything more I can provide, just let me know.
