We delivered this letter to the Secretary of State’s office. It deals with an alleged violation of the ‘secret ballot’ issue recently ruled on by the Ohio Supreme Court.
From the Secretary of State’s website, we found this job description of the Secretary of State.
“As Ohio’s chief elections officer, the Secretary of State oversees the elections process and appoints the members of boards of elections in each of Ohio’s 88 counties. The Secretary of State supervises the administration of election laws; reviews statewide initiative and referendum petitions; chairs the Ohio Ballot Board, which approves ballot language for statewide issues; canvasses votes for all elective state offices and issues; investigates election fraud and irregularities; trains election officials, and works with counties to train poll workers. The Elections Division of the Secretary of State’s Office also compiles and maintains election statistics and other election-related records.”
Here is the response we received from the representative of the Secretary of State’s office:
“Thank you for contacting the Ohio Secretary of State’s office regarding your concerns with Lake County Republican Central Committee. Your message was forwarded for my review and response.
The Ohio Secretary of State does not have any statutory authority to investigate your concerns. I encourage you to review Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost’s website which discusses possible remedies to alleged violations of the Open Meetings Act. That information may be found here: https://www.ohioattorneygeneral.gov/FAQ/Sunshine-Laws-FAQs.
You may also consult an attorney to discuss your legal options. Further questions regarding the Open Meetings Act may be directed to the office of Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost at 800-282-0515.
If our office can be of any further assistance, please let me know.”

(LFC Comment: Note to the average citizen: If you think that the State officials “have our backs”, and we can count on them to control anything or anybody locally, then you need to readjust your thinking. IT IS ALL AN ILLUSION!
The system is set up so that you must spend big bucks on lawyers, and work through a court system that is painfully slow, expensive, and tilted toward the large law firms.
Officials hide behind the definition of home rule: “In the United States, home rule refers to the authority of a constituent part of a U.S. state to exercise powers of governance delegated to it by its state government. … Each state defines for itself what powers it will grant to local governments.”
This is why it is incumbent for groups of citizens to be the watchdogs over local officials, and expose them. Forget the party affiliation, since it is just one big cabal, feathering their own nests at the expense of the taxpayers!)
