Concord Resident Speaks Out About Fire Levy
[LFC Comments: Here is a letter from Mr. Bob Patterson, Concord Resident, to the Concord Trustees regarding the increase in property taxes for the new fire station. We offer this forum for any and all Concord residents that want to weigh in on the fire levy.
Mr. Patterson is reinforcing what we have been saying for quite some time. The ever increasing property taxes are pricing seniors, and those living on fixed incomes out of their homes that they have worked all their lives to achieve.]
I hope all is going well. To my chagrin I just found out about the public meeting you had last week. I saw nothing in the paper.
In any event, I heard you are still considering a levy (tax increase). While I agree we could use new fire stations, I question why you need a tax increase. Why not wait and save a few more years and proceed with no tax increase?
Here is what my clients who live in Concord see you doing. Many are retired and on fixed incomes. They see that their taxes are already too high and you are just adding more tax burden on them. They are livid and do not appreciate being taxed out of their homes! Yes, some are dangerously close to being forced to move!
On a macro-economic scale any tax increase is insane. We are in the middle of a pandemic and just had a 39% decrease in our GDP! Unemployment is going up, over 20,000,000 people are out of work and thousands of businesses are going bankrupt. I don’t think you really considered how bad things are and there is still no cure in sight yet.
I urge you to reconsider this move to increase taxes. It is wrong in so many ways and if you do proceed it will be a albatross hanging over your careers as a Trustee and Fiscal Officer.
