By Brian Massie, Member Committee to Abolish Ohio Property Taxes
The Committee to Abolish Ohio Property Taxes had a press conference in Kirtland Hills to announce the number of signatures collected to date. A huge thank you to Kent Kuholski and Ohio Political News for livestreaming the event.
Here is a link to the recording of the event.
Since our legislators have decided to ignore the citizens of Ohio in favor of their donor base, and in keeping with our 250 year anniversary of the founding of this great nation, we decided to create a document to let the State of Ohio’s three branches of government know that the citizens will not tolerate their failure to follow their oath of office, their indifference toward protecting private property, and ensuring happiness of all Ohio’s citizens.
Private property is the foundation of freedom and liberty. We demand that our freedom and liberty be secured as enshrined in the Ohio Constitution for this and future generations.
Let’s review the definitions of freedom versus liberty:
Freedom refers to the ability to act or think as one wants without being hindered by outside forces. It is often associated with the idea of self-determination and the pursuit of happiness. Freedom is a more general concept that can be applied to a wide range of activities from economic freedom to personal freedom.
Liberty can be defined as the state of being free within society from oppressive restrictions imposed by authority on one’s way of life, behavior, or political views. It emphasizes the rights of individuals to be left alone and make their own choices without interference from the government or other institutions. The idea of liberty is enshrined in the United States Constitution which guarantees a number of fundamental freedoms such as freedom of speech, religion, assembly and the press.
Our inalienable rights are enshrined in Article 1, Section 1 of the Ohio Constitution:
“All men are, by nature, free and independent, and have certain inalienable rights, among which are those of enjoying and defending life and liberty, acquiring, possessing, and protecting property, and seeking and obtaining happiness and safety.”
