Brandon Towns Questions LFC on Parental Rights

By Brian Massie, Citizen Journalist, follower of Jesus Christ

We received an email from Mr. Brandon Towns, a community activist in the City of Mentor, Ohio. We have heard Mr. Towns speak many times at the Mentor School Board meetings. You can find our videos of him speaking at the school board meetings on our website.

Here is Mr. Towns’ email to me:

Good evening,

I saw the article linked below and was quite confused by your opposition to this parent’s rights regarding how they raise their child. For the past two years I have heard you and your compatriots defend parental rights only to abandon them now when a parent’s right/wish/decision opposes your version of morality. I would to hear your thoughts on this contradiction.

Here is our response to Mr. Brandon Towns:

Mr. Towns,

Thank you for your comments.

Freedom and liberty from government oppression is a cornerstone of our Constitutional Republic, and parents certainly have the right to raise their children with their family views on morality, and how to live in harmony with others in a free society.

However, it is our position that taxpayers forced to support public education have a right to expect elected officials to have a higher standard of morals, especially since they are role models for the most vulnerable and impressionable in our society.

The citizens of Mentor, in the next couple of elections, will come to the proverbial “fork in the road”.  The election of school board members and the decisions on a new 2.5 mill property tax levy and a 6.73 mill renewal levy will determine if the citizens choose the narrow path of righteousness, or the wide path of destruction.  We sincerely hope that they choose wisely since the future of their children depends on it.
