Updated 11/1/18 – with response from Lake Metropark Director.
Based on the troubles in Geauga County between their Park Commission and their Budget Commission, we decided to review the Ohio Revised Code section 1545 to see what is written about bonding requirements for park commissioners and employees.
We found the following sections:
1545.05 Commissioners bonds required
We decided to email the Park District and ask if they are in compliance with the Ohio Revised Code:
We have been reading with great interest what has recently happened with Geauga County’s Park Districts and the Geauga Budget Commission. We would like to know if Lake Metroparks is in complete compliance with ORC section 1545.05 and ORC section 1545.13 regarding the proper bonding of the Metroparks commissioners and employees.
We will report back to you when we get an answer from the Park.
Did you know that Lake Metroparks is under the direction of Lake County Probate Court Judge, Mark J. Bartolotta. He appointed the following Lake County citizens to govern Lake Metroparks:
Commissioners: Gretchen Skok DiSanto / Frank J. Polivka / John C. Redmond
They serve for three years without compensation.
The Park Commissioners appointed Paul Palagyi as the Executive Director to oversee the daily operations of the Park System.
We did attend one Park meeting, and definitely got the impression that it is a well run organization. At our last review the Park System had 8,100 acres.

LFC – Here is the response from Mr. Paul Palagyi, Executive Director – as we have stated before they appear to be a very well run organization:
Thanks for your question. Yes, we meet the requirements under 1545.03 and 1545.15 and in a couple circumstances exceed these requirements. Out of an abundance of fiscal caution we have bonds for my position, the Chief Financial Officer and our two legal counsels and the amount of those bonds exceeds what is required by law.
Hope you have a great fall season which appears to finally be here!
