Mentor Property Taxes Collected By Property Class 1,2,3

By Brian Massie, A Watchman on the Wall

We were asked the following question by a concerned Mentor taxpayer:

Has there ever been a breakdown or an analysis performed of the revenue received by the district from its tax base?  For example, how much is received from residential property taxes versus industry?

Mentor Resident

The answer to this question can be found in the Lake County Auditor’s Schedule A. We would be remiss if we did not give a huge thank you to the Lake County Auditor’s office for their transparency with LFC. A special shout out to Barb Hogya for her tireless efforts in educating me on property taxes.

Here is the information for Mentor City followed by a report on levies collected by the Mentor School District:

Here is a summary we compiled of property taxes for Mentor City and the Mentor School District by property class:

We are in the process of compiling a list of all property tax levies paid by the Mentor residents and those in the Mentor School District. Stay tuned…it will shock you when you see the number of levies for the County, Mentor, and School District.

ANY TAX THAT CAUSES A CITIZEN TO BECOME HOMELESS IS IMMORAL!

This is our 30 second commercial pleading with State legislators to protect Lake County Seniors!

If you think you pay a lot of property taxes now, just wait until the impact of the estimated 30% property value increase due to the sexennial revaluation in 2024 to be collected in 2025. The Mentor school district is not at the unconstitutional (our statement to the State Representatives) 20 mill floor yet, so Mentor residents’ burden will not be as great as Willoughby-Eastlake residents.

We are estimating that with an average of 30% increase in property taxes, the Mentor resident will be paying an additional $93 per $100,000 of market value. ($11 for County, $32 for City, and $50 for School District)
