Free Speech Under Attack In Ohio Counties…Wake Up People

By Brian Massie, A Watchman on the Wall

We continue to see escalating attacks on our freedom and liberties by government employees all over Ohio.

Our circulator in Clark County provides us with her experiences with Clark County government officials.

Interactions with officials in Clark County

September 1st
Volunteer-Diana Boyd, resident and senior citizen at Car Show

I was sitting quietly by my truck with AxOhTax sign at a New Carlisle Cruise In accepting signatures for the AxOhTax initiative as I had done since around May 4th.
Cruise In sponsors said I was welcome to come to participate.

On Sept 1 st the New Carlisle Fire Chief, in uniform, and out of nowhere came around the tailgate of my truck yelling, “who said you could sit in this lot?” I told him I was with the Cruise In to which he said, “NOT for long!” He got in his official fire company vehicle (jeep with lights and siren) and proceeded to go over to the Cruise In sponsor to I assume complain about my presence.

I am unaware of the entirety of the conversation but after the Cruise In sponsor very
nicely asked me to move my truck over to the bank lot, which I did. I am sure the
sponsor did not realize that I had special permission to be there, which I did have.
However, I did not wish to cause issues with the folks with or attending the Cruise In so I accommodated their request.

Administration Building

Volunteer-Diana Boyd, resident and senior citizen

I was downtown Springfield sitting beside of truck at the AB building collecting  signatures for AxOHTax for which I am a member.  I was parked in a legal parking space with my tailgate down when the sheriff came over and told me I was in a 2 hour parking space, which I was unaware.  I asked him if I could move my truck after every hour to hour and a half and he did not say yes or no.  I moved my truck every hour to hour and a half from 10 am to 3 pm.  I did not approach anyone rather I waited for them to come to me.

While I was parked there a lady collecting tax payments out of the drop box came out twice.  The first time she said that I was wrong to abolish property tax.  I didn’t say anything just smiled.

The second time she came out she said, “You should be ashamed taking parking spots from those coming to pay their tax bill.”  I told her I have yet to pay mine as well.

Once my colleague volunteer came to assist she never returned.

Clark County Board of Elections

Volunteer-Diana Boyd, resident and senior citizen

Clark County Board of Elections called the sheriff on myself and a colleague. She said, “administrator of the county commissioners” said we had to leave because this was government property and that we were not allowed there.  Another sheriff came to back her up, but never said anything.  I asked why as were 100 ft away from the polls.  She said, “who told you that?”  I said it was a polling rule from the state of OHIO.  She said the sign on the truck, our shirts, and our yard signs had to leave.  My truck was parked in the back lot more than 100 feet away.

We left since we did not wish to cause issues.October 13th.

Diana called me, Sue Mazzarini (zone captain) and I spoke to another zone captain, Ed Maloof.  I called my liaison with the SoS, Caleb Shriver, and let him know what was transpiring.  He said that was not his area and I asked that he contact the liaison for that area.  Ed in the meantime called the SoS office and spoke to a representative.  He received a return message from the SoS confirming our right to be there.

We decided to return on Oct 22,  Ed and I and Teresa went into the BOE office to speak to Jason Baker, Director.  He came out to speak with us and was visibly irritated.  Ed attempted to smooth the waters but Jason continued his commentary in a loud and disruptive manner which was garnering not only attention from voters but employees as well.  I suggested to go behind the doors and he just kept on to which we ended the conversation and let him know we would be collecting outside the 100 foot mark.

We set up and not 5 minutes later 2 people from the administrative office came out, Jennie Hutchison and the legal counsel, Beau.

After the conversation, they left and then comes the deputy, Sgt. Jones  Spoke to her and once she understood we had spoken with the administrative office, she left.

Bravo to Ed Maloof for standing up to the tyranny in Ohio.

This is a transcription of the voice mail message Ed Maloof received from the Secretary of State’s office regarding citizens’ right to collect signatures at the Board of Elections’ office:

Hi, this message is for Edward. This is Alexis returning your call from the Secretary of State’s office regarding the incident that happened yesterday at the Clark County Board of Elections, I made a incident report, and it was escalated to our. Director of elections. He mentioned that signature Gathering for petitions is allowed outside of the 100-ft neutral zone.

He recommended that you communicate your intentions with the Board of Elections ahead of time and. If the Board of Election still has an issue with that, they, the board of elections, can feel free to contact our office regarding this. So, outside of that, there’s no further action to be taken, and I hope you have a good rest of your day.

We ask the question:

Is our 250 year experiment as a constitutional republic over?
